The United Nations supported a new photo exhibition at the Bronx Documentary Center showing the work of late war photographers Tim Hetherington and Chris Hondros, who chronicled the Liberian war in 2003.
The exhibition ‘War and Peace in Liberia’ marks the end of 25 years of UN Peacekeeping in the West African region known as the Mano River Basin, which extends from Côte d’Ivoire to Sierra Leone.
The last peacekeeper in that region left Liberia in March 2018 when the UN Mission there (UNMIL) completed its mandate.
United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed praised the work of the journalists who brought this story to the world, helping to drive momentum for ending the conflict and bringing hope to the younger generation.
The exhibition runs until 16 December 2018 -
